Manchester School of Architecture visit Spire Manchester Hospital

Last week Halliday Meecham Architects’ Phil Hewer and James Wilford gave third year students from Manchester School of Architecture a tour of the new Spire Manchester Hospital.

For many of the students this was their first experience of a live construction site, and after a brief talk on the scheme and our approach to the design, the tour focused on the intricacies of putting together a building with such complicated servicing requirements. The scheme is at an excellent stage to illustrate a wide range of site activities, with the concrete and steel frame starting to receive curtain walling, cladding and roofing.

We certainly enjoyed giving the tour, and despite the weather, hope the students and their tutors did as well.  The new hospital is progressing well on site and is due to open early 2017.
