The Place Apartment Hotel

The London Warehouse on Ducie Street is a Grade II listed former railway warehouse. It is the only surviving of four such warehouses constructed in 1867 for the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire railway.

The seven storey building is clad in brick with an internal structure of cast and wrought iron which carries vaulted brick floors.

Building on significant conservation experience gained during the restoration of Velvet House and Bombay House in Manchester, Halliday Meecham Architects led the sympathetic conversion of the warehouse into a 108 bed apartment hotel with restaurant, offices and conference facilities.

The project involved removal of the centre of the building to form an atrium onto which all apartments and amenity space are accessed. Two storey duplex penthouses are located at roof level and accessed from an external glass lift.
